JOB SUMMARY: As an Abbey Resort associate, you will have the opportunity to be part of an incredible team at an all service resort situated on the beautiful shores of Geneva Lake. BASIC FUNCTION: The Banquet Cook II is responsible for preparing, cooking, and plating a variety of hot dishes for large events and banquets. This role involves working efficiently to produce consistent, high-quality food while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The Banquet Cook II plays a key role in ensuring that all food is prepared according to the event schedule and meets the standards set by the catering or banquet team.
QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience as a banquet cook, line cook, or similar role in a high-volume kitchen environment.
- Experience in preparing large quantities of food for events is highly preferred.
- Strong cooking skills, particularly in the preparation of hot dishes.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Understanding of various cooking techniques, including roasting, grilling, sautéing, and braising
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Familiarity with large-scale food preparation and banquet operations.
- Ability to stand for long periods and work in a high-heat environment.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) as needed.
- Dexterity in using kitchen tools and equipment, including knives, ovens, and grills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and cook a variety of hot dishes according to standardized recipes and banquet event orders (BEOs).
- Ensure all food items are cooked to the correct temperature and consistency and are presented attractively.
- Adjust recipes and portions as necessary to accommodate the specific needs of each event.
- Work closely with the banquet team to coordinate the timing and delivery of hot dishes for service.
- Prepare food in advance as needed, and ensure it is held at the correct temperature until service.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of banquet service stations as required.
- Monitor the quality and presentation of all hot dishes to ensure they meet the standards of the catering or banquet operation.
- Taste and adjust seasoning to ensure the best flavor and consistency.
- Plate and garnish dishes according to the specifications of the event.
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring that food is stored, prepared, and served safely
- Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient operation, especially during busy events.
- Communicate effectively with the banquet team and other cooks to ensure all food is prepared and served on time.
- Assist with training new kitchen staff as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients used in the preparation of hot banquet dishes and communicate with the kitchen manager to reorder supplies as needed.
- Accommodate special dietary requests and ensure that all food items meet the specific needs of the event’s guests.
- Respond promptly and professionally to any feedback or concerns from guests or event organizers

- Effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- Required to perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
- Scheduled hours may vary on business needs and may or may not include holidays, weekends, various shifts, overtime or reduced hours.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including all cooking surfaces, equipment, and storage areas
ENVIRONMENT: Indoors with artificial lighting, exposed to high heat temperatures and uneven surfaces. Occasionally exposed to slippery surfaces, loud noises and cold cooler/freezer temperatures.
