Summary: 

     The Bar Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hotel bar, ensuring excellent guest service, proper beverage execution, and smooth shift leadership. This role supports bartenders, manages bar organization, maintains product quality, and upholds operational and brand standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

Primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise bar shifts to ensure consistent, high-quality service.
  • Assist bartenders during busy periods and maintain an active presence behind the bar and on the floor.
  • Ensure cocktails are made according to recipes, specs, and presentation standards.
  • Monitor bar cleanliness, organization, and stock levels.
  • Enforce responsible alcohol service and ensure compliance with hotel and state regulations.
  • Handle guest concerns quickly and professionally to maintain a positive experience.
  • Assist with liquor, beer, and wine inventory, weekly counts and variance checks.
  • Maintain proper par levels and communicate order needs to management.
  • Track product usage, waste, and potential shrinkage; escalate concerns as needed.
  • Assist with cash handling procedures, voids, comps, and daily reconciliation.
  • Support training of new bartenders and servers on procedures, cocktails, and service etiquette.
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching and corrective feedback.
  • Help create a positive, motivated work environment through teamwork and communication.
  • Engage with guests, perform table touches, and lead hospitality standards.
  • Ensure bar atmosphere, lighting, and music align with hotel brand expectations.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge across cocktails, wine, spirits, and beer.
  • Support upselling initiatives and special beverage activations.
  • Complete opening, shift change, and closing procedures.
  • Ensure all bar equipment, tools, and glassware are in proper working condition.
  • Promote safety, sanitation, and cleanliness per health department and hotel guidelines.
  • Report maintenance issues or safety hazards promptly.

To perform this role successfully, an individual must have experience achieving desired result(s) in their areas of responsibility. The requirements listed below are representative of observable behaviors and essential knowledge, skill, and abilities required of a successful incumbent.

  • Previous bartending experience required; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong mixology knowledge and ability to teach cocktail techniques.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and guest service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in high-volume environments.
  • POS proficiency and comfort with basic administrative tasks.
  • Flexible availability includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid Alcohol Server Certification (or ability to obtain).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs (cases, kegs, etc.).
  • Bend, reach, and move quickly to support bar operations.
